Absaroka Backcountry Dog Chews

Four cowboys on horseback cross a river with dogs in a scenic mountain landscape.

About Us

Absaroka Backcountry Dog Chews was born in the high country—where deer and elk roam freely, rivers carve deep canyons, and dogs run wild alongside their humans. We’re based in Cody, Wyoming, on the doorstep of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the last truly wild places in America.

We believe in wild stewardship, hiking deep into the backcountry to responsibly collect these antlers—never harvested, never farmed. Our deer antler chews and elk antler products are just wild gifts from the land. We are a small family business. All antlers are hand-collected responsibly, ensuring no disturbance to wildlife or habitat. Each chew is a slice of wilderness—untouched, unprocessed, and packed with minerals, making them the perfect sustainable pet chews.

Why Do Deer and Elk Shed Their Antlers?

Each winter and spring, deer and elk drop their antlers—a natural reset driven by seasonal hormones. These bone crowns fall after the rut, allowing for the regrowth of stronger, more symmetrical antlers in spring. This process is nature’s way of recycling, and it's how we responsibly source our deer antler chews and elk antler products—no harm, no waste, just sustainable pet chews from the Greater Yellowstone backcountry.

Why Do Dogs Love Antlers?

Dogs are instinctive chewers, and deer antler chews provide a natural outlet for this behavior. These long-lasting, odor-free chews are rich in calcium and phosphorus, making them a great choice for your pet. Unlike synthetic chews, elk antler products rarely splinter or stain, ensuring a safer chewing experience. They satisfy your dog’s primal urge to gnaw while promoting dental health, making them an ideal sustainable pet chew.

Sustainability

  • Our commitment to sustainability starts on the trail. We work in harmony with the landscapes where horses roam, hikers wander, and wildlife follows its natural rhythms. Every antler chew we use is naturally shed, reflecting a cycle that renews itself each season. By honoring responsible recreation and the well-being of the herds that share our backcountry, we ensure our antler products support both healthy ecosystems and the people who love exploring them.

Organic

  • Our antler chews come straight from Mother Nature’s own workshop. Each piece begins as a naturally shed antler—shaped only by weather, time, and the landscape. Nothing is added, nothing is manufactured, and nothing about them can be replicated in a factory. They’re pure, organic, and untouched, carrying the integrity of the wild from the moment they’re found to the moment they reach your dog’s paws. With our range of antler products, you can choose sustainable pet chews that are not only healthy but also environmentally friendly.

Premium Quality

  • Small-batch sourcing is what sets Absaroka Backcountry Dog Chews apart. Every antler, whether from elk or deer, comes from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem—where wild elk and deer still roam in numbers large enough to shed premium-grade antlers each season. We don’t buy truckloads from national brokers or mixed-origin suppliers; instead, we gather sustainable pet chews in limited quantities, close to home, ensuring traceable quality and a naturally restricted supply. That combination of place, purity, and scarcity is what makes our antler chews truly premium: they’re born of a specific landscape, harvested responsibly, and available only in the small batches nature provides.

“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”
